91st Barry County Soils and Crops Conference Jan. 23
January15, 2020
A group of agriculture leaders and businessmen from Barry County planned the 91st annual Soil and Crops Conference, which will be in Cassville on January 23 at 6 p.m.
“There’s been an influx of local interest to determine if retained ownership will help them retain profits,” said Reagan Bluel, dairy specialist for MU Extension in Barry County. “Eldon [Cole] has been invited to tell us about the years of experience working with SWMO producers sending their cattle to Iowa, tracking the profits and losses of steers on feed.”
Producers will leave with data-driven economic analysis on this important topic.
Following the difficult growing seasons producers have experienced recently, sampling your hay could be the best opportunity. The Barry County Soils & Crops offers a wide range of topics at the 91st annual conference to improve your bottom line. “How to read you hay test,” explained by local ruminant nutritionist Reagan Bluel, will walk you through the simple math required to calculate the needs of your herd.
Be sure to bring your farm’s hay sample results and a pencil, because Mike Hickinbotham,, from Custom Labs, will complete the discussion by describing “How to determine which commodity most affordably covers the herd’s needs.”
Custom Labs is offering a hay test the basic test you’ll need for just $12.00.
Finally, Peter Scharf, MU state soil specialist, has been invited from campus to help producers learn how to evaluate the benefits of potassium and sulfur in their fertility management programs.
Producers in attendance are asked to provide a $5.00 preregistration fee. To pay online, visit http://extension.missouri.edu/barry, click on “events” and search “Barry Co. Soil and Crops” or in person by visiting on the second floor of the downtown historic courthouse (700 Main, Cassville). Walk ins are welcomed for $10 per person the night of the event.
The 91st annual Barry County Soils & Crops Conference will be held at the First Christian Church, 905 Old Exeter Road, in Cassville, from 6 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. The evening will begin with dinner, featuring John Sullivan’s catering. This event has been sponsored by Arvest Bank, Barry Co. Co-op, Main Street Feeds, MFA, Purdy Farm Center and Security Bank.
