It’s that time of year again, and summer school is just around the corner. Cassville, Exeter, Purdy, Southwest and Wheaton will all have summer school beginning in the coming week.
Cassville Summer School will be in session starting May 27 and ending June 19. Free of charge Breakfast and lunch will be served every day through funding of the Division of Health and Senior Services to school-aged children whether they are enrolled in summer school or not.
Summer school begins at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. at Cassville. The children will be on a rotation from teacher to teacher throughout the day. Jill LeCompte, Cassville assistant superintendent, said, “We have three main goals for the summer school program. The first goal of is to keep them learning. Studies show that children being out of school for three months straight represses what they learned that year. Our second goal is to provide a safe environment that doesn’t cost money for children that don’t have anywhere else to go during the summer. The last goal is providing these children with free meals that they might not receive unless they are attending summer school.”
Many exciting things will be happening this year for the students attending Cassville Summer School. Field trips for the primary, intermediate and middle school students will include, the Native American Museum, in Rogers, Ark., Botanical Gardens, in Springfield, the Nature Center, in Springfield, and the Titanic Museum, in Branson, they will also be visiting local places such as the Cassville Aquatic Center, Roaring River, the library and the park.
If enough students are interested in riding the bus to Cassville, there will be bus routes available that will pick up students in groups from locations that the school organized. For more information concerning summer school, you can pick up a flyer at the Cassville School offices.
Exeter is also having summer school and their theme is “summer adventures.” They will be taking some trips to Cassville Aquatic Center and doing other fun summer activities. Exeter’s summer school is June 1 through June 16.
Wheaton will be taking some field trips, and giving an attendance recognition award this summer. They will also have a music program at the end of summer school. Wheaton’s summer school is June 1 through June 25.
Southwest summer school is by invitation only. They are still in the process of planning their field trips. Southwest’s summer school is May 27 through June 23.
Purdy has many field trips planned such as the Aquatic Center and the Monett YMCA. The teachers are incorporating outdoors and camping into the subjects the kids will be learning, and on the last day they will have a cook out and give out attendance awards. Purdy will also provide free breakfast and lunch. Purdy’s summer school is May 25 through June 19.
