Barry County Democrats donate to food pantry
June 19, 2019
The Barry County Democrats are doing more than just talking politics. The club has been growing and gaining new members who have lots of fresh ideas. The younger members expressed their desire to do more locally to help their community. “We talked about adopting a section of highway or serving in a senior center,” stated club chair Maella Blalock. “After contacting the Barry County Health Department, we decided to collect food and hygiene items to donate to local food pantries.” Items were delivered to the Monett Food Pantry. Future plans include distributing free water at the Purdy Festival and the Monett 4th of July Celebration. “Yes, we also talk about politics,” said Blalock, "but we want people to have a place to come and learn about issues and discuss their opinions without labels, stereotypes and anger.” The club meets on the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Cassville Library.
