Barry County joins overseas Christmas project
November 13, 2019
New Site Baptist Church in Monett and First Baptist Church Cassville are not waiting until Thanksgiving Day to express gratitude. Instead, they are giving back by packing gifts of joy for children around the world living in extreme poverty or affected by war, disease or natural disaster. Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan’s Purse, is the world’s largest Christmas project of its kind.
During National Collection Week, November 18 through 25, area residents will donate gift-filled shoeboxes with school supplies, hygiene items, notes of encouragement and fun toys, such as a doll or soccer ball. This year, residents in the Ozark Mountain area hope to contribute nearly 15,500 shoebox gifts toward the 2019 global goal of reaching 11 million children.
Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international Christian relief and evangelism organization headed by Franklin Graham. The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to demonstrate Christian love in a tangible way to children in need around the world, and, together with the local churches worldwide, to proselytize. Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has collected and delivered more than 168 million gift-filled shoeboxes to children in more than 160 countries and territories.
