It was an evening of glitz, glamor and evening gowns for some of Cassville senior boys. This weekend marked Big Man on Campus, an evening of laughs and entertainment as senior boys dress as their feminine alter egos and compete in a beauty pageant that puts others to shame.
This year’s contestants were: Geoff Brophy as Dirty Dixie, Clayton Flowers as Allison Chains, Evan Cowfer as White Chocolate, Colby Cash as Shawnequa, Levi Pollreisz as Leyonce and Parker Skinner as Birdie Shanks. By the end of the night, the ladies had danced, dazzled and charmed their way into raising $1,553 for Cassville’s Project Graduation.
Project Graduation is a safe alcohol- and drug-free celebration for graduating seniors each year from Cassville. Multiple fundraising activities throughout the year make the event possible.
Contestants this year began the competition with a group dance number before Master of Ceremonies Mike Scott, the Sports Director of KY3, Inc., introduced the judges for the evening. This year’s judges were Representative Scott Fitzpatrick, Stan Melton, Jill LeCompte, Carey Howe and Ryan Armstrong.
Next up, the ladies came out with their talent portion of the pageant. Brophy and Flowers did a duo square dance and interpretive dance to Little Red Wagon. Skinner provided the audience with golf tips, from how to connect with a perfect swing to how to pick up that handsome man on the course.
Pollreisz was up after Skinner, bringing two back up dancers to belt out a lip-sync version of Beyonce’s Crazy in Love. Finally, Cowfer and Cash closed out the talent portion as they pop and locked it to Lip Gloss by Lil Mama while wearing dangerously tight spandex. The judges might have gotten more than an eye-full for that up-close and personal performance.
After intermission, the ladies came back out in their evening gowns for the interview portion. Questions asked by Scott ranged from their fears, dreams to why they should win the contest. As the ladies got a little personal, the judges learned that White Chocolate’s biggest fear was pregnancy tests, and that Shawnequa’s super power, if she had one, would be Baby Daddy Vision as she shouted out into the audience, “I see you Darrell. You’re gonna pay that child support. You can’t hide forever.”
Learning who the ladies really were was the most eye-opening part of the competition. Dixie was asked what was the biggest difference between her and the other contestants. She answered, “I would say beauty, but truthfully, it’s booty.” Birdie Shanks opened up about her favorite athlete, “It’s Tiger Woods because that man is spicy.” Scott replied, “That answer will terrify my dreams,” a thought that resonated with the audience.
As the judges tallied up their scores for the lovely pageant ladies, special awards were also handed out. The Hubba Hubba Award was given for the southern hottie of the group and was awarded to Pollreisz. The Covergirl Award was given for the best make-up of the evening and was awarded to Cowfer. The People’s Choice Awardwas given to the contestant that raises the most money through collections from the audience and jars placed on the stage. The audience favorite this year was Brophy. The Miss Congeniality Award was given to the contestant who was most pleasing and likable. Cash was crowned Miss Congeniality, a surprising choice considering how often she and baby-daddy Darrell bickered from stage.
The evening capped off with the overall winner being crowned as Big Man on Campus. This year’s winner was Levi Pollreisz as Leyonce, who had the lip syncing, dancing and beauty to knock out the competition, all while wearing an impressively large pair of high heels. First runner-up was Parker Skinner as Birdie Shanks, and second runner-up was Clayton Flowers as Allison Chains.
The evening was a light-hearted one that brought plenty of laughs from the audience as the six contestants did their best to channel their inner pageant queen. The best part is that the proceeds go to a great cause to keep seniors safe as their celebrate their graduation together.
