Candidate for Barry County Sheriff, Danny Boyd
July 22, 2020
1. Why are you running for sheriff?
It is a goal I have always wanted to reach in my law enforcement career. I want to be a working Sheriff and not just an Administrative Sheriff. I believe a Sheriff should lead by example. I want to make a difference and contribute to a safer and better Barry County.
2. What type of experience do you have that makes you a good candidate for this office?
In my current position as a law enforcement officer, I have had supervisory roles, trained other officers, and have had continuous training in law enforcement. I am currently an investigator, but I still take calls and work the road, which I feel makes me more qualified than my opponents. With laws changing all the time, I make it a policy to stay up with all the new and current changes in law. And I feel it is important to be active in policing on a regular basis.
3. Do you feel the budget is adequate for current operations? Are there changes you would like to see made to it?
There is no way the budget is adequate for current operations. Other resources, such as grants and other funds that can be of financial assistance in getting equipment, uniforms, etc. would be helpful. Working diligently with the Commissioners to present a budget for Sheriff’s Office that will be both reasonable and necessary for the safe and efficient operation of the department and provide core services needed, especially in these unprecedented times, to protect the citizens and visitor of Barry County is a must.
4. Are there areas in the relationship between other municipalities, the Conservation Dept. and the Highway Patrol that could be improved? If so, how would you improve them?
There can always be room for improvement, no matter what. Having a good working relationship with other agencies and the cities of Barry County can enable us to have better coverage and response to all areas of Barry County. If elected, I plan on sitting down and reaching out to all the other agencies to get a better relationship started to work together. For the County to run efficiently, all agencies need to work together.
