Carthage teen seriously injured after hit by dump truck

A teenager from Carthage had to be airlifted from an incident near Shell Knob after he was hit while walking. The Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report states the teen was hit in a private driveway off of MO 39 about four miles south of Shell Knob on Monday, June 18, around 10:45 a.m.
Todd A. Chitwood, 37, of Rockaway Beach, was driving a Kenworth dump truck on the private driveway. While backing up westbound, he hit the teen, Cash E. Young, 17, of Carthage, and then another vehicle, a Neal eight to 14 foot paving machine. Young then fell under the dump truck.
Cash was airlifted from the scene for serious injuries to Mercy Hospital in Springfield.
The dump truck sustained moderate damage and was towed from the scene by Randy’s Towing, of Berryville, Ark. The paving machine had minor damage and was driven from the scene.
The driver of the paving machine is unknown. Chitwood had no reported injuries at the time of the crash.
