June 24,2015 Charlea Mills Mindi Artherton, the Cassville Area Chamber of director for the last six years, announced her resignation from her position and the Board will be seeking a new director. Artherton, who has been the ever-smiling face of the Cassville Chamber for so many years, plans to dedicate her time to her family. She said, “I feel like I’m at a point in my life where I’m most needed at home. I’ve appreciated and enjoyed the opportunity to serve as the director of the Chamber, but it does require a lot of time on the evenings and weekends, and I feel like I owe it to my kids to dedicate that time to them.” Looking back, Artherton enjoyed her time with the Chamber organizing community events, luncheons and getting to speak with business owners. She said, “My favorite part was talking to new business and about Cassville and what the Chamber could do for them. Going out and meeting new people and encourage them in their business endeavors and help them as much as the Chamber could.” As far as one of her favorite events, she said, “I would say my favorite is the salsa and chili cook off. It was most well-known, and there was always a lot of support behind it and from the community. There is so much tradition there. Everyone knew what it was and a lot of people could get behind it and get excited about it.” Artherton is also pursuing a couple of other ventures outside of her role as a mom. One thing is that she is exploring the possibility of working in a communication capacity for the Cassville School District. She said, “I’ll get to focus on being a mom first and foremost, but I am pursuing an opportunity with the school to be able to relay information about what is going on to parents and the community. “The school is doing a lot of positive things that aren’t being told to the community. I’ll be able to educate Cassville and parents of students to keep them up on what all is going on with their school. “That is just going to be part-time, so I’ll still have the flexibility to be there for my family.”
Artherton also will be dedicating more time to a recent venture with her sister-in-law, Kelli Artherton. The two run SouthwestMissouriMoms.com, a site dedicated to moms in the area. She said, “Basically, it is a website for women and moms in southwest Missouri that serves as a resource for women as far as community events, health information, activities in the area, feature a couple of local bloggers, recipes, and just a lot of things that moms are looking for. It’s very relative to southwest Missouri.” With Mindi’s two kids, Briley, 4, and Rhett, 1, and Kelly’s kids, Brooklyn, 6, and Addison, 4, they have the experience to know what moms in the area are looking for. Parting with the Chamber in the town she loves so dearly, Artherton said there is a lot that she will miss. She said, “I am going to miss the people. I’ve gotten to work with some amazing people, and I’ll most miss seeing them everyday. I’ve really appreciated a lot of our volunteers who are so enthusiastic about Cassville and getting to work with them.” The Chamber Board is currently seeking individuals interested in taking over the position of director. Any interested parties can contact the Chamber Board president Michelle Bredeson at Commerce Bank. Artherton’s last day will be July 9.
