Cassville City Council met Monday, April 12, with a relatively short agenda.
The possibility of rejoining the National Flood Insurance Program was not discussed at this month’s meeting. When asked afterward, city administrator Steve Walensky said he hopes to arrange for a FEMA representative to come to Cassville for a question and answer session with interested citizens. Walensky said he’s not sure yet whether FEMA will accept the invitation, so discussion has temporarily been placed on hold.
“I think it’s important that everyone with an interest in this topic receives as much education about it as possible,” Walensky said, “so I plan to call FEMA this week to see if one of their representatives is willing to participate in a public discussion.”
More information will be given when it becomes available.
City council did discuss plans to resurface the south end of the park’s loop beyond the soccer fields. The current pathway is gravel and is difficult for bicycles to navigate.
With a September date for Trout Festival at the soccer fields in mind, other possible improvements to the Aquatic Park in preparation for the event were discussed, chief among them, increased provision of electricity.
“With more electrical availability, we can attract more vendors to the festival,” Walensky said.
The city is currently working on a feasibility and cost study with Barry Electric to see what it will take to extend electricity south from the baseball fields behind the aquatic center.
The lighting of the soccer fields, security lighting along the north/south drive, and the provision of Wi-Fi service to park users are also possibilities being discussed.
“If we can add lighting to our soccer fields, we’ll be able to host travelling soccer tournaments: kind of a big thing right now,” councilman Jon Horner said.
