Cassville Fire cools off hot band as they prep for upcoming season
August 7, 2019
The Cassville High School Band was busy the last two weeks with camps and activities in preparation for their upcoming marching season. On July 22, they began with two days of camp for color guard, Monday through Friday practices for the percussion and three days for wind instruments. This time is used primarily for learning music. One teaching technique is to utilize the experienced upperclassmen to help instruct the new freshmen in short sessions, which has proven very effective.
Full band camp, with time spent outside to learn basic marching techniques and start learning drill, was conducted last week. One of the highlights of camp was a visit from the Cassville Fire Department, who provided a little water relief on one of the hot afternoon sessions. Students had fun and were refreshed. The band has great support from the band boosters, parents who provide meals during the camp as well as other support during the season.
The CHS Wildcat Band will participate in four competitions this fall beginning September 21 at Carl Junction, with other festivals at Mt. Vernon, MSU and Reeds Spring. To help with the money needed for these competitions, band members hosted a very successful car wash Saturday, August 3. Band director Ed Lammers said, "We are grateful to the community for their support at this event and throughout the year."
