According to his grandmother, Christine Shepherd, nine-year-old Roper Wiseman, of Cassville, began playing baseball when he was five years old.
“He played on a Cassville team until last fall, when his parents let him try out for a league team in Ozark through Ballparks of America in Branson,” Shepherd said. “That’s when he really took off.”
In spite of the fact that he was just nine, Wiseman, the son of Josh and Kanisha Wiseman and Andrew and Cierra Parada, tried out for the 10U Central Ozark All Star Team out of Branson this spring, and was chosen to play.
“He’s playing with boys who are one and two years older than him,” Shepherd said, “but he’s pulling his weight.”
His team won the 10U State Cal Ripken Tournament in Boonville, then advanced to the 10U Regional Cal Ripken Tournament in Minot, North Dakota, where they again won.
The team will now advance to the Cal Ripken 10U World Series in Palm Beach Gardens, FL, in August, where the team will compete for the 10U Cal Ripken World Series title representing the Midwest Plains Regional Division of Cal Ripken.
Wiseman will be a Fourth Grader at Cassville Intermediate School when classes resume.
