In a special school board meeting this morning, the Cassville R-IV School District hired Jimmie Barton as the new middle school principal. Barton is currently employed with the Ballard School District in Butler.
Barton will replace Melanie Stringer who turned in her resignation last month after taking a paid leave of absence. Stringer’s resignation is effective June 30. She was the middle school principal for the past two years after one year as the principal at the intermediate school and two years as the middle school assistant principal.
Barton was hired contingent on being let out of his current contract with the Ballard School District. At the board meeting, Jill LeCompte, Cassville assistant superintendent, said, “He got out of his contract I believe last night, and he has nearly 20 years of experience under his belt, so we’re excited.”
LeCompte said that the district received roughly 24 applications for the middle school principal position and a team of middle school teachers selected eight to interview. LeCompte continued, “Then they got those down to two that they recommended.”
The position of middle school principal has a salary of $72,000 for the 11-month contract.
During the meeting, the school board also accepted the resignation of Christy Hermansen, high school communication arts, who will be leaving to teach at Monett.
Other new hires included Jordan Ellis as the new agriculture teacher replacing Kelin Kruse, who is leaving to teach at Neosho, and Mary Darden will be teaching seventh grade communication arts as a new teacher.
LeCompte addressed the school board members and said, “We only have a couple of positions left to fill for next year, so we’re in really good shape.”
