Cassville Ladycats run to second at Seneca Invitational

The Seneca Invitational had a state meet feel to it as top ranked teams from East Newton and Lamar battled it out in the boys varsity cross country race on Thursday, September 12. The Patriots earned the win with 61 points, despite Lamar taking the top two individual places on a fast 5K course.
East Newton moved down to Class 2 in the new state classifications and is expected to be a strong contender for a state title in November.
Southwest placed fourth with 105, followed by Cassville in fifth with 118. Purdy, under new coach Leah Treadwell, was 10th with 221.
The Southwest boys packed four runners in the top 25 in an impressive performance.
Southwest scorers: Travis Sickles, 20th in 18:26; Christian Long, 21st in 18:36; Caison Uthe, 23rd in 18:40; Xander Deshields, 24th in 18:43; and Caden Uthe, 33rd in 19:39. Roper Varner, Southwest’s 6th runner, had a solid race placing 36th in 19:46.
Devon Brookes and Pace Evans both medaled to lead Cassville to a fifth-place team finish.
Cassville scorers: Devon Brookes, 15th in 18:13; Pace Evans, 17th in 18:22; Steven Collinwood, 31st in 19:29; Kel Wilson, 37th in 19:47; and Quinn Cook, 38th in 19:58.
Purdy scorers: Zach Brewer, 27th in 18:55; Dawson Abramovitz, 42nd in 20:31; Weston Ellison, 66th in 22:39; Adrian Tate, 72nd in 23:11; and Alan Rodriguez, 76th in 24:09.
Exeter only ran four in the varsity race and did not score as a team.
Exeter finishers: Dominic McMahon, 48th in 20:56; Lane Willis, 84th in 25:58; Austin Mattingly, 86th in 26:35; and Jamison Nichols, 90th in 31:35.
Lady Wildcats second at Seneca
The Cassville Lady Wildcats powered to a second place finish at Seneca, led by Annie Moore’s Top Ten finish. Lamar won the team title with 54 points, with Cassville scoring 58 for second on the 2500 meter course.
Cassville scorers: Annie Moore, 7th in 23:22; Jolie Evans, 12th in 24:34; Kennedy Parnell, 24th in 26:00; Madry McCrackin, 26th in 26:03; and Ella Reuter, 35th in 28:27.
Southwest’s Cally Bowyer finished 20th in 25:23, and Allison Corwin placed 37th in 29:36.
Purdy’s Joy Grace was 33rd in 28:21, and McKenna Orwig took 36th in 28:46.
In the middle school races, Southwest’s Hunter Barnes led area runners with his 9th place finish in 9:28, and Cassville’s Kyler Howard finished 11th with her 11:13 performance.
