Cassville Pantry asks for diapers for kids in need
September 5, 2018
The Cassville Community Food Pantry is hosting a Diaper Drive during the month of September. The Diaper Drive is advocating for helping alleviate diaper need in Cassville and Barry County and coincides with the upcoming National Diaper Need Awareness Week September 24 through 30.
The Community Pantry, located at Cassville United Methodist Church, serves as a rural partner affiliate and distribution site of the Diaper Bank of the Ozarks based in Springfield. In addition to offering food items to persons in need, the pantry supplies diapers to low-income families. A low income household can receive a package of 25 to 50 diapers once per month per child as its supply allows, depending upon inventory on hand. Hours for families to receive the diapers are the same as the Cassville Community Food Pantry hours: Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Emergency requests can be considered by contacting Cassville United Methodist Church at (417) 847-2328. The church is located at 601 Gravel St. in Cassville.
The Cassville Community Pantry Diaper Drive is requesting donations of either diapers, wipes or monetary donations.
Donations can be dropped off at Cassville United Methodist Church weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monetary donations can be mailed to Cassville United Methodist, PO Box B, Cassville, MO 65625. Write diaper drive in the memo line of your check. One hundred percent of the funds donated to the diaper drive will be used to acquire diapers or wipes for low-income homes in need.
Clean diapers for babies are a basic necessity that many households go without. Diaper need occurs when a family does not have enough of a supply of diapers on hand to adequately keep their babies and toddlers clothed in clean and dry diapers. Although government programs such as WIC and SNAP are in place to help low income families with other needs, they do not cover or assist with the essential need of diaper supply.
One in three of our Barry County children live in a home earning less than 100 percent of federal poverty level. This means one in three children you encounter every day are potentially part of a household struggling with diaper needs. Many parents of infants and toddlers cannot afford to buy enough diapers to secure their babies’ healthy growth, cleanliness and wellbeing.
In order to participate in the workforce, parents of young children are required to supply a childcare provider with diapers. If parents are unable to handle the supply required by the childcare site, this missing resource will prevent them from working or attending school. The environment of a household without enough diapers suffers on many levels resulting from crying and discomfort, and health risks for babies. How well can the adult members of a household manage when their babies cannot sleep through the night due to soiled and dirty diapers? The disruption in the home from lack of sleep and the resulting health risks for everyone can trickle down to create other adverse consequences in the family environment.
Help the Cassville Community Food Pantry keep Cassville babies healthy and happy by supporting its diaper outreach.
They are an equal opportunity provider. For more information, contact Janet Mills at the Cassville Community Food Pantry at the Cassville United Methodist Church, PO Box B or 601 Gravel St. in Cassville, or call (417) 847-2328.
