Cassville parade delivered joy

Santa Clause, a perennial favorite, waved to awestruck children at Sunday's Cassville Christmas Parade

The Cassville Christmas parade, a popular seasonal event, drew fewer entries this year than usual, but was still thoroughly enjoyed by those who attended Sunday night’s traditional march from the Cassville High School, down Main Street to Casey’s. The number of onlookers, including many wide-eyed children, appeared to be undiminished.
Using his grandfather Fred Whisenhunt’s 1961 Metropolitan Nash as a centerpiece, Caden Swearingen, owner of CS Designs, Decor & More, in Cassville, created a float designed to catch more than just the eye. As winner of the Kid’s Choice Award, sponsored by Hutchens Construction in Cassville, Swearingen took home $1,000 in cash. In addition, his float was chosen by judges as the best float in the “Commercial” category, although, Swearingen says, he does not yet know if there’s a prize associated with it.
Also in the “Commercial” category, J&L Hair Fashions took second place and Copy Cat Printing was chosen as third place winner.
In the “Non-Religious” category, Hillside Poultry, Cub Scout Pack #76 and Cassville FFA took first, second and third place, respectively.
In the “Religous” category, first place went to First Baptist Church, second place to the Emmanuel Baptist Church youth group, and third place to Habitat for Humanity, all from Cassville.
The Cassville High School band was chosen as “Best Band,” the Cassville Cruisers Car Club was recognized for having the “Best Decorated Vehicle(s),” with the honor for the “Most Unique Vehicle” going to Benny’s Automotive.
