Starting Friday, June 7, Cassville’s Bill Haley Arena will once again serve as the location for the 77th Annual Cassville Rotary Rodeo. The event will take place on both Friday, June 7, and Saturday, June 8. The rodeo begins at 8 p.m. on both nights.
Admissions prices for the rodeo are $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 6 to 12. Tickets are available in advance by contacting members of the Cassville Rotary Club. Advanced adult tickets receive a $2 discount.
Both evenings will include many standard rodeo events, such as: bareback riding, saddle bronc, bull riding, calf roping, team roping, steer wrestling, cowgirl barrel racing and cowgirl break-away roping.
The rodeo will also feature two children-specific events. First is a ‘Kid’s Scramble,’ in which children under ten will be released into the arena with calves, to remove the ribbons from their tails for a cash prize.
The rodeo will also feature mutton busting forchildren six and under, or 50 pounds and under, attempting a full ride on a sheep. This will take place sometime during the rodeo and not prior to the event, as it had in previous years.
Registration for all events will take place at the start of the rodeo and will be open until that event begins.
During the rodeo, there will also be a crowd participation segment in which members of the audience will be asked to share a teeter-totter. The rodeo staff will then release a bull into the arena, and the winner of the game will be the person who makes it the longest without abandoning the teeter-totter.
This will mark the second rodeo event put on by C.R. McKellip’s Inc., a rodeo company based out of Hardwood. According to Dr. Chad Johnson, member of the Rotary Club’s rodeo committee, the switch was made to bring new life and a sense of family fun back in to the annual rodeo.
“They’re more family oriented, so they really engage the crowd more,” said Dr. Johnson. “It’s a family business: the mom and dad own it; the son is an announcer; and the daughter carries the flag out to start the rodeo, so they understand the family orientation.”
The 77th annual Cassville Rotary Club Rodeo will run from June 7 to June 8 and will begin at 8 p.m. on both nights. Admission at the gate will be $10 for adults and $5 for children.
