Cassville Wildcats ready for season opener at Mt. Vernon
August 26, 2020
Lee Stubblefield
The Cassville Wildcats will open the 2020 football season on the road at Mt. Vernon on Friday night. Despite all the craziness of the past five months, and the jarring changes at the college and professional levels, Missouri high school football is back.
So are the Wildcats.
With the Republic jamboree in the rear view mirror, Lance Parnell and his staff have the Wildcats positioned to make another deep playoff run. After reaching the state championship game in 2019, this Cassville team is ready to build off the success of last year.
Expectations are high for the Wildcats. Preseason state rankings have Cassville ranked as high as second in Class 3. Monett, Seneca, and Mt. Vernon are also listed in the Top 10. After starting the season at Mt. Vernon, Cassville will face Monett and Seneca back-to-back in weeks 6 and 7.
A lot of questions will be answered in a tough opener at Mt. Vernon. The Wildcats will be starting a new quarterback again this season. A number of holes created by graduation create opportunities for other players. At Cassville, the tradition is to reload, not rebuild.
Because of seating restrictions at Mt. Vernon, the Wildcat Nation’s presence will be limited by the ticket allocation of the host school. Make sure you have your ticket before you go. No ticket, no admission. Kickoff is set for 7 PM.
