Chamber seeking contestant applications for
“River to Table Trout Cook-Off”
June 9

Plans are underway in Cassville for the Cassville Area Chamber’s second annual Trout Fest, an event scheduled this year for Saturday, September 18, at the Cassville Aquatic Park and soccer fields. As it did last year, Trout Fest will provide fun for the family, with vendor booths, musicians and activities for the kids. This year’s celebration, however, will offer a fun new twist - a fish in the pan - in the form of a River to Table Trout Cook-Off hosted by the City of Cassville and the Cassville Area Chamber of Commerce.
“We started to plan for a cook-off last year,” Chamber Director Morgan Williams said, “but then COVID hit, so we had to hold off on it.”
Applications for ten selected Trout Cook-Off competitors, plus three alternates, are being accepted through Wednesday, June 30. Each of the ten selected applications will represent three-person teams: one head-cook and two assistants.
In order to be considered for selection, applicants must submit a 60-second video describing their favorite Roaring River memory and the reason why they should be chosen as a competitor.
The River to Table Trout Cook-Off will take place in progressive phases, beginning at Roaring River State Park, where contestants will fish for the trout they will use in the cook-off.
For the second phase of the cook-off, contestants will transition to Cassville’s South Park for the cooking phase of the competition, where they will prepare a trout entree with the fish they caught at the river.
The third phase (or category) of the competition, involves a basket of mystery ingredients which contestants will be given to do with as they will in the preparation of a side dish to go along with their trout entrees.
First, second and third place prizes will be awarded in the three categories: “Best Catch,” “Trout Entree” and “Mystery Basket.”
According to Williams, contestants will be judged by local celebrities whose identities will be announced at a later date, Williams said.
Applications to become a competitor in the cook-off may be submitted via a link on the TroutFest-Cassville Facebook page, no later than 11:59 p.m., Wednesday, June 30.
