A Go Fund Me account has been established for Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper, Colton Beck - a Cassville High School graduate - who was injured in Springfield in the line of duty Friday night at www.gofundme.com/f/colton-beck-mshp-146.
According to court documents, Beck, of Cassville, who has been with the highway patrol for over six years, attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation on Republic Road on the south edge of Springfield at 11 p.m. Friday. The driver failed to yield and a pursuit occurred. When the fleeing driver’s vehicle left the roadway and became stuck in a ravine, the driver - later identified as Justin Jackman - emerged with a shotgun and fired at Beck, who was struck in the head and chest. Jackman fled the scene, but was located the following morning after an overnight manhunt.
Trooper Beck is undergoing medical treatment, including for the loss of an eye as a result of being shot.
Jackman has been charged with first-degree assault, armed criminal action, felony possession of a firearm, and resisting arrest.
