The Cassville Middle School Softball Team won the Big 8 Conference Tournament, making this the first for the organization during ten years of play.
The Wildcats went 3-0 on the weekend with outstanding offensive and defensive contributions from all teammates.
The team went 9-2 for the season, finishing with an overall record of 12-2 and the #2 seed for the Big 8 Conference Tournament. Of the two losses, the first one was against Ozark, who went on to win the Central Ozark Conference Tournament. The second loss was to Marshfield early in the season.
The loss to Marshfield was only the Wildcats’ second conference game, which ended with a score of 4-0. After the loss to Marshfield, the team got in a groove and went on to finish the season with ten straight wins.
The Championship game was a match-up against the #1 seed, Marshfield.
“These girls were looking to redeem themselves," stated Head CMS Softball Coach, Kristi Pinckard. "After a hard-fought battle, the Wildcats came up victorious, beating Marshfield 5-3."
The Wildcats jumped early, taking the lead 2-1 in the first inning. Neither team scored in the second inning, but in the third, the Wildcats took off, earning three runs and causing a pitching change for Marshfield. After Marshfield earned one run in the bottom of the third inning, neither team scored again, and the game became a true, pitching duel. Aubrey Stoufer (Pitcher), led the Wildcats to their 5-3 win, only allowing one hit in the last two innings of the game.
"The Wildcats’ season ended with their Big 8 Tournament win, but we are excited to move forward and start preparing for next season," said Coach Pinckard. "I will be relocating to Oklahoma next year to be with family; however, Shawn Trent will continue serving as a coach for the CMS softball team."
