Number of Barry County COVID-19 cases, deaths increase

December 2, 2020
Sheila Harris

According to Barry County Office of Emergency Management director, David Compton, as of December 2, the Barry County Health Department reported a total of 1,965 cases of COVID-19; the number of deaths increased to 31, up two from last week.
Of the confirmed cases, 128 people are in isolation, more than 400 are quarantined, eight are hospitalized and 1,805 have recovered.
Compton says he’s heard from people with positive cases of COVID-19 this week who believe they contracted it at Thanksgiving gatherings.
“I’m concerned about upcoming weeks,” he said.
Compton believes holiday gatherings can be done safely with masks and social distancing.
“I’d rather celebrate with distance between us, so I can celebrate with my family  again next year,” he said.
