Driver dies after head-on collision with bus

A Crane man was killed after a collision with a Galena School bus on Highway 248 on Tuesday afternoon. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, the man’s truck hit the school bus head-on around 4:20 p.m.
Kelly P. Vaught, 47, of Crane, was driving a 2004 Ford F150 eastbound on Highway 248 about five miles southwest of Crane when the crash occurred. The truck hit a 2001 International IC school bus headed west, driven by Paul E. Schlis, 57, of Galena, head-on.
Vaught was pronounced deceased by Barry County coroner Jim Fohn at 5 p.m. He was transported to Fohn’s Funeral Home in Cassville.
There were no reported injuries from the school bus.
Schlis was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Vaught was not wearing a seat belt.
This was Troop D’s 87th fatality for the year. The Missouri State Highway Patrol was assisted by the Barry County Sheriff’s Offfice on scene.
