The Purdy Eagles and the Cassville Lady Wildcats saw their seasons end in brutal fashion last week. The last remaining Barry County teams in action, both met state championship quality teams and suffered one-sided defeats.
Greenwood 79, Purdy 50
Osiel Aldava scored 6 of Purdy’s first 12 points as the Eagles raced to a 12-4 lead to start their sectional contest against Greenwood. But the Blue Jays recovered to take a 19-18 lead at the first break, and took control of the game from that point forward.
The Eagles could only score 8 points against Greenwood’s pressure defense in the second quarter, and the Blue Jays took a 36-26 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Greenwood’s Aminu Mohammed put the exclamation point on a Greenwood runaway with a thunderous dunk.
The Eagles finished their season with a 15-13 record.
Carl Junction 70, Cassville 22
After earning a quarterfinal win over Neosho in Class 4 District 12 play at Monett, the Cassville girls were no match for undefeated Carl Junction. Led by Katie Scott, the Missouri Gatorade Girls Basketball Player of the Year, the Lady Bulldogs dominated in a 70-22 semifinal win over Cassville.
Carl Junction went on to claim a 72-32 win over Webb City and earn a fifth straight district championship. The CJ girls enter the state championship bracket as the only undefeated Class 4 team.
Cassville finishes the season at 10-17.
