Eagles Soar in All-District Honor Choir
November 6, 2019
“It was a great day at the 2019 All-District Honor Choir at Joplin High School. My students sang with heart and gave a beautiful concert at day’s end.” Purdy High School Vocal Music Director Lauren Lee and seven of her most gifted vocalists joined students across the area on Saturday, October 26, for an all-day rehearsal and late afternoon concert, under the direction of clinicians Eric Eichenberger (Freshman/Sophomore Choir) and Jonathan Owen (Junior/Senior Choir).
All-State Honor Choir Auditions were also held, with 150 students participating. At the conclusion of the concert, Lee was delighted to hear the name of Purdy HIgh School Senior Shana Whisman included in the list of 16 vocalists accepted into the 2020 All-State Choir.
Of her selection, Whisman noted, “It never would have been possible without Mrs. Lee. She believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself, and she held on when all I wanted to do was quit. I am so grateful that she always pushes me to be my best.”
Lee added, “Shana’s hard work and dedication over the years made all the difference. She has always remained teachable, which is what it takes to succeed in anything in life.” Lee and Whisman will represent the Purdy Eagles at the All-State Honor Choir Festival at Lake of the Ozarks, January 22 through 25, 2020. Whisman is the daughter of Shane Whisman, of Purdy, and Denise Hembree, of Granby.
