East Newton boys, Nevada girls win Big 8 XC titles

The East Newton boys and Nevada girls won team championships at the Big 8 Conference Cross Country Meet at Granby on Monday afternoon. The rain-soaked 5K course ran a little slower than usual, but still yielded some excellent times.
Lamar’s Kolin Overstreet won the boys race in 16:12 .3. But the host Patriots placed four runners in the top eleven while scoring 52 points. It was the 12th Big 8 title for the East Newton boys, a conference record. Lamar was second with 69, and Cassville finished third with 116. The Monett Cubs placed fifth, scoring 143.

Kierston Potter of Lamar won the girls race in 19:50.8. The Nevada Tigers relied on youth - two freshmen and two sophomores - to win the girls team title, scoring 76 points. The Cassville Lady Wildcats were fifth with 118 points. Monett came in sixth, scoring 143.
