Over the last few years, Security Bank of Cassville has made donating to local organizations a priority. Since June 2017, the bank donated over $6,700 in aid to local charitable projects. The most recent recipient was Exeter Schools to help purchase clothing for kids in need.
According to Security Bank of Cassville president, Jon Horner, the money for these donations comes directly from the bank’s employees. Employee donations total anywhere from $200 to $300 on a monthly basis. Horner explained that for their donation, employees gained access to a special incentive on a weekly basis.
“What we do is, on Fridays, we let our employees wear jeans, but in order to do so, we ask that they donate $5,” explained Horner. “At the end of the month, we select an organization that we think is worthwhile, needs assistance and works within the community.”
According to Horner, since 2017, the bank has been able to donate to 32 organizations and counting. Beneficiaries of these donations include: Haven of the Ozarks, OACAC, the Barry County Museum, various organizations throughout all school districts in Barry County, and many others.
The most recent beneficiary of these donations is the Exeter School District. According to Exeter School nurse, Becka Johnson, the school makes a near constant effort to ensure that student needs are met both in and out of the classroom.
“Students should be in an environment where the things that they need shouldn’t distract from their learning,” said Johnson. “There isn’t a formal program in place. If we see a need, we try to fill it.”
According to Johnson, the district keeps clothes, shoes and other basic essentials on-site for students that have a need for these items. The district accepts donations of both clothes and shoes from private citizens aiming to help students in need. The district also accepts monetary donations for these purposes.
On Thursday, October 3, Security Bank donated $200 to the district for the purpose of purchasing new amenities for students.
Johnson explained that the district has recently received a large donation of clothing items that will be able to benefit multiple students. With the money donated by Security Bank, the district intends to purchase new shoes in a variety of sizes for students.
“We need shoes of all kinds,” explained Johnson. “Kids go through shoes like you wouldn’t believe.”
Exeter School District is still accepting donations of clothes and shoes for students in need. To inquire about donations, contact the school at (417) 835-2922.
