Exeter traffic stop yields opiates

June 20, 2018
Charlea Estes-Jones

A traffic stop yielded methamphetamine and opiates in Exeter when the driver of a vehicle was caught driving with another person’s license plates on her vehicle. Candace Renee Guilkey, 35, of Washburn, was pulled over between Highway MM and Chestnut Street in Exeter on Thursday.
On June 14, the Exeter Police Department made a traffic stop on Guilkey. Police Chief Kenen Martinez reported when the traffic stop occurred, Guilkey admitted to having marijuana in the vehicle. It was at that point the passenger in the vehicle nodded at Chief Martinez when he asked Guilkey if she had any other illicit narcotic or methamphetamine.
When Guilkey’s purse was searched, law enforcement found suboxone, tramadol and methamphetamine.
Guilkey was also driving on a suspended or revoked license at the time.
Guilkey is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, one count of driving while revoked/suspended and one county of displaying the plats of another motor vehicle. She is currently being held in the Barry County Jail in lieu of a $30,000 cash or corp surety bond.
