Chief Master Sergeant (E-9) Matt Self, a 1994 graduate of Monett High School, is nearing the end of his 26-year Air Force active duty career. Self joined the Air Force in 1996 and has been a Loadmaster on C-130 Aircraft ever since.
He has been assigned to bases in Florida, the United Kingdom, Illinois and, most recently, Little Rock Air Force Base in Arkansas.
He has been deployed numerous times in support of combat and peacetime operations across the globe.
His final flight occurred November 18, when he flew his last low-level training mission over the Monett century farm of his grandparents, Bob and Wanda Banks, followed by a dip over the home of his mother and father-in-law, Carlin and Kathy Hooten, south of Cassville.
Self’s retirement ceremony was held in Little Rock on December 10. His effective retirement date is March 1, 2022.
Self, his wife, Jayna, and children Hunter and Hannah reside in Cabot, Arkansas.
