Four charged with burglary, arson after stolen dog found

September 23, 2015

Four men have been charged with a burglary and arson from April after Barry County deputies located a dog stolen from the home. Two of the four men charged, Norman Baez, 25, of Monett, and Tyler Rubert, 18, of Crane, are currently being held in the Barry County Jail, and warrants have been issued for the other two, Theodore Peterson, 42, of Rocky Comfort, and Charles Peterson, 44, of Rocky Comfort.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, the four broke into a home on Farm Road 2170 in Purdy on April 6 with the intent to steal property to satisfy a perceived debt owed by the owner.
The four allegedly stole tool boxes, tools and tow ropes from the home.
Charles Peterson allegedly told the home’s owner and another person that during the burglary, something had gone wrong, so they burned the house down to destroy any evidence left behind. According to the statement, Charles lit the fire and Theodore kept the match as a souvenir.
At the time of the fire, two dogs were in the house. One dog was found dead after being trapped on the porch. The couple assumed the other dog was dead until they were told that the suspects had stolen it. When one of the victims went to Theodore Peterson’s home on Urchin Road in Rocky Comfort, she saw the dog. Later, deputies drove by the home and took pictures to confirm that it was the same dog that was stolen.
All four were charged on Friday, September 11. Baez was already in jail on four other charges: distribution of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of a controlled substance in a jail. Rubert was arrested on Monday,                 September 21. Rubert is being held on a $30,000 cash-only bond. Baez is being held on a $82,750 on all charges. Both of the Petersons have warrants out for the arrests, and they are feature as Barry County’s Most Wanted this week on page 12A.
