Gravette boys win Southwest Holiday Tournament

The Gravette Lions pulled away from Marionville in the fourth quarter to claim a 56-46 victory in the championship game of the 37th annual Southwest Holiday Tournament at Washburn on Monday night, December 30. Gravette, Ark. nipped
Cassville in the Saturday semifinals, 44-42, to advance to the title game.
3rd-place: Gentry 59, Cassville 40
Cassville then fell to Gentry in the third-place game on Monday, 59-40. Led by the twin towers of Garrison Jackson and Casey Bates, the Pioneers controlled the paint to set the stage for the long range shooters to take over.
Gentry’s guards poured in seven treys in the contest, keeping the Wildcats at bay.
Cassville trailed 12-5 after one quarter, but rallied to claim a 16-15 lead at the 4:18 mark of the second quarter. But Gentry answered with a 16-5 run to finish the half and then rang up a 21-8 third quarter before coasting home with the win.
Jackson paced the Gentry attack with 19 points. DJ White scored 15 to lead Cassville.
Wheaton topped host Southwest in the consolation bracket final, 71-59.
Gravette’s JV squad downed Exeter in the seventh-place game, 92-61.
