Every year, people from all over the country flock to Barry County to enjoy a number of local parks and summer recreations the area has to offer. Sensing a need for a shop that sold a comprehensive selection of fishing, camping and lake gear, husband and wife team, Terrie and Kathi Zornes, have opened Happi Camper Outdoors.
The space was built out of a shop building on the Zornes’ property. The building is divided in two with the front of it acting as a shop for general camping and outdoor goods. In the shop, they offer boats for rent as well as camping equipment and fishing gear. Happi Camper Outdoors sources some of their fishing equipment from local suppliers such as Nu-Tech baits, based in Cassville, and Head Case baits, of Seligman.
The second half of the shop is devoted to the business’ specialty, building affordable, lightweight, luxury camper trailers. These campers are built in-house by Terrie Zornes, who has an extensive background in construction.
Their trailers’ frames are first built by a manufacturer in Omaha, Okla., before being sent to Zornes who then handles the wiring and interior construction.
According to Kathy Zornes, her husband has worked in construction all his life and keeps his passion alive by constructing unique campers.
“He can build anything,” said Kathi Zornes.
“I do this for the satisfaction of a finished project,” said Terrie Zornes.
Zornes’ trailers measure five by eight, and interiors feature space for a queen-size camping mattress and a small television. The back of the trailers feature a small kitchen area with shelving for storage and outlets to power cooking equipment. Trailers can also include an optional four-post awning for the kitchen area and a sitting space in front of the trailer’s door. The roof also features hookups for a television antenna. Located in a box mounted to the front of these trailers is a 110-volt battery that powers the electronics.
Happi Camper Outdoors offers several trailers for a rental fee of $50 a night and also offers custom built trailers that can be purchased outright upon request. Prices for these trailers vary based on materials and extra features. According to Zornes, these trailers can usually be completed within the span of a few weeks once the materials are ordered.
Happi Camper Outdoors is located just east of Cassville, at 14824 Farm Road 2200, which is just past the junction of Highways 76 and 86 at Bates Corner. After turning on to 86, Farm Road 2200 is located just before the road begins to curve.
Happi Camper Outdoors is open Wednesday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. unless Monday falls on a holiday, in which case the shop is open.
