Haven of the Ozarks Animal Sanctuary’s animal of the week is Valerie. She is a shepherd and husky mix, approximately three years old.
Valerie spent some time with Haven’s trainer Tristan who said, “Valerie is a very good house dog. She is good with other dogs, kids and is potty trained. She learned boundaries very quickly, staying out of the kitchen and dining area when asked. She was comfortable with the other dogs around her during feedings. When she first arrived, I kept her on leash attached to me because of her energy, and I didn’t know her potty habits. She calmed down very quickly and began to do what the rest of the pack does. Her energy was not an issue at all. She was walking on leash very nicely for us, including having Rebecca (13 years old) walk her as well. It will be important for any future home to establish boundaries with Valerie, but that is true for any dog. Valerie would make an excellent companion for most anybody. She was actually probably too good; all three kids thought we should be giving her a forever home. I told them I consider six dogs a firm ceiling. Otherwise, I might have considered it.”
Valerie’s adoption fee is $90. She is microchipped, spayed and up to date on vaccinations. Call the Haven (417) 835-3647 or visit her any day of the week from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 9617 FR 2190, Washburn. For more information, visit: http://www.havenoftheozarks.org/.
