According to administrator Roger Brock, the Barry County Health Department received its first shipment of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine Monday.
“We received an initial shipment of 100,” Brock said.
The first vaccines, Tier 1A, will be administered to staff for independent healthcare providers, including doctor’s offices, dentist’s offices and pharmacies.
“Hospitals will make arrangements to vaccinate their employees who want a vaccine,” Brock said.
“Residential care facilities are contracting with CVS and Walgreen’s Pharmacies for the vaccination of residents and staff,” he added.
Brock anticipates that the first shipment of 100 vaccines will be administered by the end of the day Wednesday.
“We’re not sure yet when we’ll receive another shipment,” he said.
After Tier 1A employees are vaccinated, Tier 1B residents will receive an opportunity to be vaccinated. That tier will include emergency personnel not affiliated with a hospital, including first responders.
