With November more than half way over and Christmas peeking just around the corner, the time for giving is fast approaching Barry County. In this spirit, a local veterinary clinic has partnered with Ozark Area Community Action Center (OACAC), of Cassville, to ensure that those within the county who can’t afford presents aren’t left out.
Herrin Animal Hospital, of Cassville, is currently in the midst of its 20th year of working with OACAC on their annual toy drive. In this toy drive, new, in package toys are collected from area businesses all over the county and distributed to families in need.
“We collect the toys and take them to the OACAC in Barry County,” explained veterinarian and owner, Dr. Brent Herrin. “From there, they distribute them to needy children that they have identified.”
According to Dr. Herrin, efforts to collect donations began this week and collection will continue until December 14. All donations can be brought to Herrin Animal Hospital, located at 93 Smithson Drive, in Cassville, near the Cassville Apartments complex. Donations are accepted during normal business hours
All donations need to be new, in-package toys. Wishlists for in-demand toys are currently available at OACAC in Cassville. The hospital has a donation receptacle in the waiting room for this purpose.
According to Dr. Herrin, the hospital’s long-standing relationship with OACAC began when the two facilities were neighbors and has continued, combining with another yearly event at Herrin in order to get the most out of their donations.
“This will be our twentieth year doing this,” said Dr. Herrin. “We got involved with OACAC because they used to be next door. We did all sorts of things with them then. We identified the toy drive as something that we wanted to get involved with. We combine it with our open house and Chamber Luncheon as well.”
This year, Herrin Animal Hospital will host their annual Open House and Chamber of Commerce Luncheon on December 6, with the lunch portion of the event expected to run from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
According to Dr. Herrin, this event serves as a time for the public, as well as local chamber members and partners, to take a look inside the hospital and gain an understanding of the kinds of services it offers to the community. The event will also serve as the final push for the toy drive. The final donations will be gathered and taken to OACAC for distribution on December 14.
For any further questions about the toy drive, or to schedule a pick-up for large or bulk items, contact Herrin Animal Hospital at (417) 847-5888. To get involved with OACAC efforts, or for further questions about other OACAC charity events, contact the Cassville office at (417) 847-2140.
