Inmates assault correctional officers and escape Barry County Jail, One remains at large

Escaped inmate Mario Che-Tuil is still at large and considered armed and dangerous. He is described as a hispanic male, 33 years old, 5'8" and approximately 170 pounds.

According to a probable cause statement, dated June 2, 2023, and filed by Detective Abby Parsons with the Barry County Sheriff's Office at approximately 11:15 p.m. on June 1, 2023, she was notified that inmates had escaped the Barry County Jail. When she arrived on the scene and contacted Correctional Officers, she was advised that Correctional Officer 1 was hit in the face multiple times in the head and choked until losing consciousness. He was cuffed in the restraining chair and bleeding.
Correctional Officer 2 stated that she had been handcuffed when she came to and witnessed Correctional Officer 1 beginning assault. Both Correctional Officers said the inmates shut the pod door, locking them inside the pod with the remaining inmates.
Inmates were able to obtain keys and left the Barry County Jail through the front booking door. Before leaving, the inmates went through the property room and got clothing. Seven inmates escaped, three were apprehended shortly after fleeing, another three were arrested, and one remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous. According to Barry County Sheriff Danny Boyd, the Correctional Officers were responsible for sixty inmates at the time of the incident.

According to the probable cause statement dated November 23, 2022, filed by the Monett Police Department, Mario Che-Tuil, of Guatemala, is illegally in the United States and is believed to be leaving the area. Che-Tuil should be considered armed and dangerous.
Barry County Sheriff's Office has turned the case over to U.S. Marshalls.
