After a first place team win at the Branson Invitational Tournament three weeks ago, the Lady Wildcat wrestlers took second place in the nationally-ranked girls’ Wonder Woman Tournament in Columbia on December 29 and 30.
According to CHS ladies wrestling coach, Nathan Fortner, 79 teams participated in the invitational tournament in Columbia.
“The girls wrestled really well,” Fortner said. “They beat out several higher-ranked schools in the state, so this second-place win will improve their state ranking.”
According to Fortner, the invitation was issued to full high school wrestling teams, unlike state wrestling competitions, where wrestlers must qualify individually.
“We had 11 wrestlers who attended and participated in the tournament,” Fortner said. “I think they had a lot of fun.”

In his first year as Cassville High School girls’ basketball coach, Reed Smith is leading the Lady Wildcats into a solid season with eight wins and four losses, so far.
Over the weekend, the ladies took second place in the Southwest Invitational Tournament at Southwest High School, where eight teams participated.
“Three of our players - Marianne McCrackin, Sharayah Seymour and Riley Morris - received ‘All Tournament’ honors,” Smith said.
