Lightning Strike Causes Blaze
Ezra DeVore
In the early morning of May 21, a fire ravaged a commercial structure for K-Kabinet Shop, near the junction of Highways 76 and 39. Central Crossing Fire Crews were dispatched at 2:15 a.m. to combat the fire, and were assisted shortly after by crews from Eagle Rock, Northern Stone, Jenkins, and Cassville. Mercy EMS, Barry Electric, and Barry County Sheriff's Office responded as well and provided assistance.
When the fire crews arrived, the structure was already approximately 50% consumed and collapsed, with the blaze fully expanded within the structure. Unfortunately, the building and business were both declared total losses, though no injuries were sustained during the duration of the fire.
At this time, the cause of the fire is believed to be a lightning strike in the late-night storm of May 21.
