Two sister-in-laws started a special site just for moms in the area, and the response has been overwhelming. SouthwestMissouriMoms.com is a site created by Mindi and Kelli Artherton, two local moms with big hearts for others with little ones in the community.
SWMO Moms features a variety of useful pieces of information for moms in the area. Features range from new recipes to interviews with local moms, kid-friendly event calendars, beauty and fashion tips and a weekly Sunday devotion. While the idea to start the website was random, according to Mindi, the reasoning shows the character of the two women. They started as a collaborative project with nwamotherlode.com. Eventually, the women decided to do it on their own.
Mindi said, “We have a heart for women in Southwest Missouri; we understand how hard it is to be a momma and a woman, and sometimes you just feel alone. SWMO Moms is a fun, informal site where moms can go to find a wealth of information and not feel so alone.”
Reaching out was their way of helping others, while also being able to dedicate time to their families. Mindi and Kelly are married to brothers and each have children. Mindi and her husband, Robbie, have two children, Briley, 5, and Rhett, 1. Kelly is married to Jacob, have two children, Brooklyn, 6, Addison, 4, and one more girl on the way due in April 2016.
Mindi said, “We provide a place where moms can connect, educate themselves on health topics, not only for their kids, but for women, view a family friendly event calendar all in one place, register to win fun giveaways, a well as read an uplifting Sunday Devotion. We also feature several light-hearted fun topics that we are al interested in, such as fashion advice, work-out tips, easy fast recipes and health and beauty advice. We update the site four to five times a week, so there is always something fresh and new for our readers, and something for everybody.”
Neither of them expected to have such a positive response from so many people. They both knew this site was something on their hearts, but to know they are making a difference with other moms is priceless.
Mindi said, “We have truly appreciated our community getting behind this. We have both literally been in tears over the kind comments, heart-felt texts and encouraging Facebook messages. It made us realize how excited our readers were for this type of information. The encouragement has made us want to work that much harder to create an online hub for our fellow moms. Even 10 months later, we light up when somebody talks to us about the site.”
That being said, the site is a collaborative effort. Mindi said, “We really strive to not make the site personal; it is not advice from Kelli and I. We are by no means perfect moms. We are right there with our fellow moms trying to educate ourselves and be the best we can be. However, once a month, we do write a personal blog post called “The Adventures of the A-Team.” We are married to brothers and there are nine children total in their family. As of today, we have 26 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren at the Arthterton house. We felt like that was kind of unique, so we write about what it is like to raise your kids in a family this large.”
SouthwestMissouriMoms.com will celebrate their one-year anniversary on February 21.
