Manhunt for alleged shooting suspect ends in Stone County

Stone County deputies arrested Charles Edward Hallett, 34, of Seligman, early Wednesday morning after a two-day manhunt prompted by the alleged shooting of a Seligman resident.
According to a probable cause statement filed by Detective Doug Henry, of the Barry County Sheriff’s Office, Charles Hallett, of Seligman, is charged with attempted murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm.
On Monday, August 30, Barry County Deputies responded to a Seligman residence, where a man had been reported shot in the upper right chest.
After Deputies arrived on scene, the victim stated that Hallett had shot him. The victim stated he had gone to confront Hallett about driving by his Cassville home and harassing him and his family. The victim stated that he parked his car in the driveway, where Hallett sat in his own vehicle. Hallett then allegedly shot the victim and sped away on West Roller Ridge.
The same day, the victim’s wife was interviewed and stated that Hallett had been harassing them after they discovered Hallett’s offense as a Tier-Three sex offender, stating she had small children and had asked Hallett to leave and never return. Hallett then allegedly became angry, and had been driving by the victim’s home and sending threatening text messages.
The victim’s wife stated that Mercy hospital informed her the victim’s lung had collapsed. It was later reported by Detective Doug Henry that the victim is in stable condition.
Hallet is being held in the Barry County Jail on a bond of $200,000.
