McCrackin leads Lady Wildcats to win in district opener

The Cassville Lady Wildcats rode a 27-point performance from Madry McCrackin to a 45-43 upset of Neosho in Class 4 District 12 play at Monett on Saturday.
Every quarter break saw a lead change. Cassville led 12-7 at the first break, but Neosho rolled through an 11-4 second quarter to claim an 18-16 halftime lead. McCrackin put Cassville up 29-27 at the final break. Neosho held a 41-40 lead and had late chances to tie or lead, but Cassville held on at the buzzer.
In a foul-filled contest, both teams had chances to put the game away at the free throw line. The Lady Wildcats made only 17 of 26 free throws. The Neosho girls made only 15 of 27.
Back in December, Neosho defeated Cassville, 42-35, in a battle of the Wildcats. But this district quarterfinal saw a different result.
Cassville improved to 10-16 and advanced to a Tuesday semifinal against undefeated and top-seeded Carl Junction.
Carl Junction 55, Cassville 51
The Carl Junction Bulldogs handed Cassville a 55-51 loss in the Class 4 District 12 quarterfinals at Monett on Saturday.
CJ held a slim 8-6 lead after one quarter but then rolled to a 25-17 halftime lead. The Wildcats whittled away at the lead, and cut the deficit to 2 on a DJ White layup in the final minute. But CJ converted clutch free throws to claim the 55-51 win.
With a brutal regular season schedule, CJ entered district play with a deceiving 5-10 record. With 6 wins under their belts, the Bulldogs advanced to a Tuesday semifinal against Neosho.
Cassville finished the season at 9-17.
CJ’s Alan Dixon led all scorers with 18. Carson Roller scored 15 for Cassville.
