Meet Your Barry County Recorder of Deeds candidates: Reese Hilburn, part 2

PictureReese Hilburn - Age: 25 - City of Residence: Exeter
July 25, 2018
• What changes, if any, do you feel need to be made within the Recorder’s Office?
I am not familiar with all of the policies, however if I am elected and find that our policies are a burden to our citizens, I will be steadfast in trying to streamline the experience for our people.

• How do you plan to promote a working relationship with other county offices and officials?
A strong relationship with other counties and other government bodies are pivotal to a smooth, and efficient running office. I will stay in contact with our neighboring Recorders in order to assist our citizens as efficiently as possible.

• Currently, Barry County only issues marriage licenses two days a week by appointment only leading to citizens needing to acquire licenses from other counties, do you plan to change that policy if elected?
I think we need to remember that people have jobs and sometimes this policy makes acquiring a marriage license difficult for some people. I would happily allow walk-ins for acquiring marriage licenses.

• How would you promote a healthy relationship with the citizens of Barry County needing the Recorder’s services?
The ability to be called on any time will help the people of Barry County meet their needs whenever they have them. I will provide the people with all of the means to solve any problems they have and listen carefully to any concerns that they may have.

• If elected, how do you plan to learn the duties of the position and transition into your responsibilities?
If elected, I would speak with the current deputy recorders, and go to our neighboring counties and speak to their Recorders. I would also speak with Craig Williams, who currently performs the duties of Recorder. A variety of learning experiences would be beneficial to learning multiple different ways to help our citizens.

• What is your plan for your first 90 days in office, if elected?
As stated before, I do not know all of our policies but my first 90 days, I would spend learning our policies and changing any that I deem a burden to our citizens.
