Monett man hit and killed walking down rural road

A Monett man was killed while walking down Farm Road 2140 outside of Freistatt last week. According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, Corey D. Jones, 37, of Monett, was walking in the lane of traffic when he was hit by a pickup three miles north of Friestatt.
Jones was hit around 9:30 p.m. on Friday, March 15. Grant J. Jester, 28, of Stott City, was driving the 1997 Ford Ranger eastbound when it struck Jones.
Jones was pronounced deceased at the scene by Lawrence County Coroner Scott Lakin at 10:10 p.m. He was taken to Buchanan Funeral Home, in Monett.
Jones was the 16th fatality for 2019 for Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop D.
Jester had no reported injuries, and the truck sustained moderated damage. The truck was driven from the scene.
