Mother’s Day Wild Tea hosted at RRSP
May 15, 2019

On Mother’s Day, May 12, Roaring River State Park held its annual Mother’s Day Wild Tea event. Attendees learned to make drinks and finger foods from local herbs and roots, akin to what the settlers would have used to fashion food and drink for themselves. Guests were treated to ginger lemonade, wild tea, homemade sassafras root beer and spinach puffs all made from local, or facsimiles of local, roots and herbs. The event was presided over by Park Naturalist Kelly Koch. Pictured above, from left to right, event patrons Patty Mayhugh, Charlotte Armijo and Martienne Brown are served glasses of ginger lemonade made from local ginger roots and lemons by Cathy Koch.
