During the process of the February 27 retirement of former Barry County Treasurer Lois Lowe, Lowe personally recommended one person to take her position, Gretta Tripp, of Cassville. Tripp was sworn into office on Friday, May 27, after being appointed by Governor Parsons to finish out Lois’s term. Tripp is currently running.
Prior to her new position in county government, Tripp worked as a Certified Medical Assistant at the clinic in Mercy Hospital in Cassville for three years.
“I did everything you can imagine there,” Tripp states. “In 2020, I received Nurse of the Year, Employee of the Year, and had perfect attendance. This is just a different way to help people. Before, I helped them with their health needs in caring for them mentally and physically,” and now, Gretta says, she supplies the funds for schools, fire departments, libraries, roads, senior funds, health care, and all state-funded entities that operate within the county.
“I got a call in December from Lois asking if I could come and help her out. She said she felt like I would be a great fit.” This selection of course comes with an assortment of challenges and responsibility required by Tripp, but according to her, she’s ready.
“It’s a great responsibility that I don’t take lightly,” she says. “I’ve always been a punctual and dedicated person, and I feel that’s exactly how Lois was. I feel I will fill those shoes as best as I can. I love to serve, and I love that this is another way to serve my community. Lois has seen me raise a family and start a business, she has seen me in action at Mercy taking care of people. I just like to work. I ran my own commercial cleaning business for over twenty years, I don’t sit still very well. It’s weird for me to sit. I’ve cleaned, and in nursing, you don’t sit down, you don’t eat, so this is very different.”
Despite the difference, Tripp states that she is most excited for “the new challenge.”
Tripp has been married to her husband Matthew for 27 years, an Exeter baseball coach who doubles as a middle school English teacher.
