New restrooms in Cassville’s city parks were a topic of discussion at Cassville’s city council meeting on Monday, March 9. Public Works Director David Brock said plans are being implemented for the construction of a new restroom facility at the downtown park on City Park Road near the existing structure. The project is the result of a 2018 survey in which city residents were asked what improvement or development in parks would best benefit families.
“Of those who responded, 64 percent put more restrooms at the top of their lists” Brock said. “We’re now working toward meeting that need. We’ve approved architectural plans and will have them drawn up over the summer. We hope to open it up for construction bids in September. Our goal is to begin construction in the spring of 2021, and have the project completed by summer.”
“Until a site survey is conducted, we won’t know whether the original restrooms will be kept for use, or removed. It will depend on the space available,” Brock explained. “The new restrooms will be available year-round, with locks set to open automatically during park hours. There will be three stalls for women, and two urinals and two stalls for men. Both sides will have a changing table for babies.”
Brock indicated the projected cost of the project is $220,000, and will be paid from sales tax revenue designated for parks and storm water, along with a tax-exempt certificate of participation loan - available through the state for municipal projects - which will be financed over a 10 or 15-year period.
“Because the aquatic center is also in need of renovations, we plan to get estimates for those repairs and bundle the costs into the same loan as the restroom project,” Brock explained.
In addition to the downtown park restrooms, which will be constructed onsite, Brock said the city is looking at possibly adding a pre-fab restroom to the trailhead near the aquatic center in the south park.
