Earlier this month, the Habitat for Humanity of Cassville members formally dedicated their most recent house to longtime volunteer and local pharmacist Lewis Metz.
Metz had dedicated years of his life to the local Habitat group, holding a strong belief in the program which provides affordable housing for people in the community who need a home.
Board member David Hermann thanked a variety of people who made the most recent house possible, including board members, those donating materials to the project and others. Metz’s family was also present for the plaque dedication at the home project.
Hermann said, “Mr. Louis Metz is being remembered today for his untiring efforts to help and support Habitat for Humanity. He was very active in working with Habitat and the community.
“He was well known and loved by all those he came in contact with. Mr. Metz served on the Habitat board and was instrumental on the selection committee to find homes for those who qualified.”
Hermann continued, “Unfortunately, Mr. Metz became ill and soon passed from this life. But he has left a legacy for others to follow for many generations to come. And it is for his legacy that we remember Mr. Louis Metz and today, we take time to honor him and his time with Habitat for Humanity by dedicating the lovely home in his remembrance.”
The plaque was presented with his family present, including Lauren Metz-Winegard, Matthew Metz and Marianne Metz. Hermann also thanked the home’s new owner Bobby Dowling for making the house a home.
First Baptist pastor James Weaver was present to lead the dedication prayer.
Hermann concluded, “This plaque will be a constant reminder of the legacy he has left and a reminder of those things which are to come.”
