New mobile app helps Cassville Schools keep in touch

April 20, 2016

The Cassville R-IV School District is leaning more on technology to keep parents and students aware of the school happenings thanks to a new mobile app available for both Android and Apple devices.
The free app was designed by Shelley Henderson, Instructional Technology Liason, and Errick Fuchs, Director of Technology, by partnering with Simplified Online Communication Systems (SOCS), the same company that hosts the District’s website.
“We continue to search for better ways to communicate with our stakeholders,” said Cassville superintendent Dr. Richard Asbill. “Smartphones and tablet devices are everywhere and we want to enable our students, staff, alumni and community members the ability to connect with the District easily at their own convenience.”
The app’s purpose is to keep all of those who are interested up to date and informed about what is happening at the school, such as news, social media posts, calendars and more. They also have the ability to send notifications of important information directly to their devices with the app.
Asbill presented the idea to the principals and administration, and everyone was excited about the opportunity. From there, Henderson and Fuchs researched the tools necessary to make it a possibility and work on the design.
Fuchs shared, “The app was designed to communicate at the district level via mobile notifications. For example, school closings or other events that may occur that effect everyone in the district, not just a specific grade level or activity.”
Henderson added, “We can always add icons to the app with links to our website in the future.  We mainly just looked at what we thought would be of the most use to those who would be accessing it.”
Mindi Artherton, communications for Cassville Schools, said, “Shelley and Errick have done a fantastic job creating our app. They took the time to research what tools would be most helpful to parents, students, community members and staff. Their goal through this entire process was to create a usable, convenient tool that everyone could have access to in real-time.”
To download the new app, search for “Cassville R-IV Schools” in the Apple App Store or on Google Play.
