New opportunity at Crowder College

Crowder College was awarded a Title III grant from the U.S. Department of Education and is currently in the third year of the grant. The funding is used to promote student success by providing more specific direction in a student’s pursuit of a certificate or degree. This fall, students attending the Cassville location may qualify to be part of the cohort.
“I am excited to have the cohort begin this fall in Cassville,” Cassville Crowder College director, Angela Seymour, said. “The grant provides additional support to help first time students navigate college with a dedicated staff person for supplemental support. Students are also able to take fewer courses at a time and in 8-week blocks so they can concentrate on fewer subjects at one time. I also like that the program is designed to make sure a student takes their general education courses that align with the Missouri Core 42 transfer program so they can easily transfer to a 4-year when completed. The program was built with student success in mind; I’m ready to get to kick it off this fall.”
The classes are taught in an 8-week format as opposed to the traditional 16-week classes. This instruction provides students the advantage of only studying a couple of subjects at a time, as opposed to four or five. They will still complete a full-time schedule during the semester, keeping them on track for graduation.
Another benefit of the program is that the schedule is pre-determined for a general studies degree. This aligns with the Missouri Core 42 Transfer Curriculum. Core 42 allows students to seamlessly transfer to any 4-year university or college in the state.
Scholarships are available for participants in the cohort. Currently, a student may earn $1,475 in scholarship money over the four-semester degree.
This year, students in the Neosho cohort graduated with their associate of arts in general studies. The cohort graduate numbers were higher than the overall institution graduation rate providing evidence that this type of model is effective.
