OFO to conclude season with superhero benefit

April 11, 2018
The Ozark Festival Orchestra concludes its 38th season on Sunday, April 15, with a benefit to support the orchestra, featuring music from superhero movies and other special features. The concert will be held at the City Park Casino in Monett, east from the park entrance on Highway 37, just south of Highway 60.
This will be the orchestra’s first performance at the City Park Casino since 2015 and revives the OFO’s Pops in the Park series. Under the baton of Music Director Todd Borgmann, the OFO will perform “What’s Up at the Symphony?,” a suite of selections from Warner Brothers cartoons; “The Complete Harry Potter,” selections from “The Dark Knight Rises,” “Man of Steel,” “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” “How to Train Your Dragon” and “The Prince of Egypt.” The concert will conclude with Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever,” with conducting honors going to one of the children in the audience, selected by a special drawing. The winner will also receive a baton as a prize.
In addition, the benefit will feature pie and ice cream for the guests. Consequently, admission will be different from usual concerts. Cost will be $10 for all adults, and $5 for children age 12 and under. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m. and music will start at 2:30 p.m.
Special features before the concert and at intermission will be a special “Musical Instrument Petting Zoo,” offered for children, courtesy of Springfield Music. Children will have an opportunity to see and touch musical instruments. Some they will be able to play.
A silent auction for lovers of the arts will again be available. Furniture, art prints, recordings, music books, specialty food baskets from Trader Joe’s and other treats will be available for bids in the Casino lobby. A live auction for specialty pies will be held before the conclusion of the concert.
The OFO is a community orchestra composed of players from southwest Missouri and nearby towns, focusing primarily on classical music. Rehearsals are held weekly in Monett. The orchestra is supported by memberships, local foundations, ads in the orchestra program book and funds managed by the Monett Community Foundation.
