Ozark Festival Orchestra young artists concert Feb. 17

February 13, 2019
The Ozark Festival Orchestra will continue its 39th season on Sunday, Feb. 17, with a “Masterpieces and Young Artist” concert at the Monett High School Performing Arts Center in Monett.
The concert will be held at 3 p.m. The performing arts center is located west of the Price Cutter Supermarket off Bridle Lane, north of East Cleveland Avenue in the northeast corner of Monett.
Under the baton of Music Director Todd Borgmann, the OFO will continue its long-running annual series of Young Artist concerts, providing performance opportunities for young people in southwest Missouri. This year’s Young Artist is Abigail Coates, a 14-year-old home schooled piano student of Cindy Dittrich, who has been playing since age 3. She will perform the finale to Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2.
Other masterpieces on the program will include the second suite from Bizet’s opera “Carmen,” the overture to Handel’s opera “Theodora,” an orchestral arrangement of the second Suite for Military Band by Gustav Holst, and additional shorter works by American composers.
The Young Artist concert series is underwritten by the Barry-Lawrence Area United Fund, expanding opportunities for young people in the bi-county area.
Admission is $10, $5 for senior citizens 65 and older. Students high school age and younger will be admitted free.
Future concerts for the season will be the Pops in the Park gala on April 14, 2019, at the Monett City Park Casino.
The OFO is a community orchestra composed of players from southwest Missouri and nearby towns, focusing primarily on classical music. Rehearsals are held weekly in Monett. The orchestra is supported by memberships, local foundations, ads in the orchestra program book and funds managed by the Monett Community Foundation.
